Renegade The Making of a President by Richard Wolffe

Renegade is the first book I have ever bought when it was first released in hard cover before any discounts. I LOVE it! I am taking my time reading it in order to enjoy it as the events unfold. (NOTE: Renegade - the code word the Secret service used for candidate Obama)

The author, Richard Wolffe, with his keen eye for observation, indepth analysis, along with behind the scenes insights, has written a book that is truly a joy to read. It is more then just a story of Mr. Obama's campaign for President. Wolffe uses a lot of biographical information, along with a touch of humor and wit that is interwoven into the book that gives a front row seat to the campaign and addresses the question who is Barack Obama from a first-hand prespective.

I highly recommend this book to everyone.

In Support of the People of Iran and Their Struggle for Freedom

For the past week my heartfelt prayers and thoughts have been with the people of Iran. Their struggle for freedom, for their votes to be counted and their voices to be heard is inspiring and moving in so many ways mere words can not express my respect and admiration for their courage.

Their struggle can teach all of us a great deal. As Americans we take a lot for granted including our freedoms. When it comes to the affairs of other countries we too often jump to conclusions before we have all the facts and an adequate understanding of the culture, and too often let the news and political rhetoric blur our thinking. We paint an entire nation with one brush based on what little we know about the leaders and news soundbites we hear. But the people of Iran are good people, with courage and respect for life, with traditions and a religion that is honorable and inspiring. However, their leaders have used these against them and twisted them into lies and deception in order to control the population and try to bully the rest of the world. The fight for freedom means something different for each country and manifests differently in every culture. However, at the core the struggle is the same for all people. From this common ground, we can grow our understanding and offer our support to the people of Iran that they succeed in their fight for freedom -- a freedom that the people of Iran chose and create.

As the people of Iran face the harsh retaliation and violence from their own leaders my heart aches for them. I also realize just how close our country came to having our version of a religion-based government and leaders claiming to speak for God controlling our every move.

Fortunately, last fall the majority of Americans took notice and millions voted to change the course of America's history that after 8 years of Republican rule was heading even further down a path to right-wing religious control and violence, with fear mongering and ego-based zealots as our leaders who would have trambled our rights and freedoms just as quickly and just as harshly as the government of Iran.

I am thankful that in our country we value and put into law the separation of church and state, for the right to vote and for our individual freedoms. But we can not take these for granted. The struggle in our country does not manifest as a clashes in the streets or our government sending armed forces to raid our homes. But there is still a struggle and there are right-wing Republican who would rule just as strickly and and in some ways just violently as any mullah. They work behind close doors, use lies and twisted logic to create fear and deceit in their quest for power, and sometimes that struggle does erupt in violence here at home (such as the recent shootings at Holocaust Museum and woman's health care clinic).

The O.D.D. Party - new name for the GOP

I think it is time to officially rename the Republican party The O.D.D. GOP Party because whatever it is, Republicans are against it.

Since the RNC wants to rename the Democratic Party, I think it is only fair we get to rename them too. (Republican name suggested is Democrat Socialist Party - of course they don't even spell Democratic correctly.)

The Republican GOP Party has become more then just the party of NO. Their continued outrageous opposition to every little thing based on fear-mongering and lies has definitely reached a new level beyond just saying no.

O.D.D. - Oppositional Defiant Disorder, expresses a persistent pattern of tantrums, arguing, angry or disruptive behaviors toward everyone, and hostile to authority figures. Treatment of involves therapy and possibly medications to treat related mental health conditions. Consistently show these symptoms: frequent temper tantrums, argumentativeness, refusal to comply with requests or rules, deliberate annoyance of other people, blaming others for mistakes or misbehavior, acting touchy and easily annoyed, anger and resentment, spiteful or vindictive behavior, aggressiveness toward peers.

That sounds like almost every single Republican in the Congress, the Senate, and on tv and radio.

GOP Never Want To Be Prepared And Do Not Care About Public Health

As the news of swine flu sweeps over the media it is important to remember how the GOP feel about these things. In their quest to never ever spend a penny, Republicans would rather see the entire nation succumb to the ravages of an epidemic, public safety just isn't all that important to Republicans and is considered an extravagance - after all we can all just drop dead at our jobs and they will replace us with the next batch of workers.

The latest evidence of Republican disregard for the nation's well being is Maine Senator Susan Collins, (supposedly a moderate Republicant). In order to obtain her vote for a watered down version of the stimulus she demanded cuts in health care spending for epdimic prevention and fumed about the pandemic funding: "Does it belong in this bill? Should we have $870 million in this bill No, we should not." On her website, Sen. Collins continues to highlight the fact that she led the fight to strip the pandemic preparedness money out of the Senate's version of the stimulus measure.

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is another example of how Republicans truly do not understand how important it is to be prepared in case of a real health crisis. He introduced an amendment that would have stripped the flu funding provision. Sen. Vitter when he argued in support of his amendment on the floor of the senate, could not comprehend how pandemic preparedness could possibly serve to protect the economy, calling it part of a "laundry list of...big government spending items"

I have news for each and every one of these Republicans cheapskates. Public health and pandemic preparedness is a government issue, it is NOT something that individuals can combat on their own - we can not make our own flu vaccines, we can not on our own provide health care for every individual in our neighborhoods who might get sick. It is one of those government expenses that is truly needed.

I noticed the Governor of Texas was asking for money to help with the swine flu. If I were President I wouldn't give him a dime until he publicly admitted how silly and disrespectful his secession speech was. He was all puffed up and ready to be succeed because the government is so big and bad, but as soon as he has a problem who does come running too - Washington D.C.!

All I can say is when you look up hypocrisy in the dictionary there should be a photo of every single Republican in public office (well not every single one - but most of them).

President Obama Open to Investigation of Bush Officials

President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that the door is open to possible prosecution of Bush administration officials who devised harsh terrorism-era interrogation tactics, but he worries about the impact of high-intensity hearings on how detainees were treated under former President George W. Bush, however, he could support a Hill investigation if it were conducted in a bipartisan way.

What a relief! I know in my heart that President Obama is a good and decent man, and it was extremely troubling that prior to this statement it seemed that he was going to try and not hold the Bush administration accountable for war crimes. I'm sure he had his reasons, but there truly is no justifiable reason to not investigate. I am extremely happy that President Obama has said that he is open to an investigation.

There is still a lot to be done. Congress and others need to know that the investigation must be done and that our nation demans accoutnability.

Stop Sarah Palin's Team-Support For Obama's Pick- Kathleen Sebelius

Team Sarah, female supporters of Gov. Sarah Palin has launched a last minute campaign to block the candidacy of Kathleen Sebelius for the secretary post at the Department of Health and Human Services. Monday morning they have urged their members to "flood the phone lines" in opposition to Sebelius' candidacy (April 20th, between 2-4 p.m.).

Sebelius's nomination is set to come to a vote before the Senate Finance Committee this Tuesday, April 21. Health care reform is too big an issue to allow the Republcians to block this key leadership position in the government's health agency and leaving it vacant for as long as they can stall the process.

We can all pitch in and let our voices be heard in support of Kathleen Sebelius by calling the Senate Finance Committe today and tomorrow morning. (Phone numbers available on page 6 of the pdf document provided by Team Sarah HERE.)

4:05 p.m. - I got through to the Senator from my state and let the person know how strongly I hope he votes to confirm Kathleen Sebelius - the person answering the phone was very nice, took my name and address (to confirm I'm from the state I said I was).

A Dollar A Day To Make Norm Coleman Go Away

Give a dollar a day to make Norm go way - now that is a cause I can get behind. The campaign is being launched by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a newly formed group designed to get progressive candidates into elected office.

I'm definitely contributing.

Pass the word around to let other know. Let's send a strong message to Republicans that they can not steal elections and that the voters do matter.

Republican Tedisco Demands Court Name Him The Winner

Latest Update: 4:40 p.m. Murphy up by 273, all counting is complete, so now the decision moves to the courts to decide on challenged votes.

UPDATE From KoS: The 10:00 a.m. NYS-BOE update has Murphy's lead up to 264. Projected outcome: With the new information in the counts from last night and this morning the model is now showing the following projection: Murphy wins by 668

Who cares what the votes say! 20th Congressional District candidate Republican Jim Tedisco submitted a petition to the Dutchess County Supreme Court Thursday asking the judge to declare him the winner. The vote tally so far indicates Murphy (D) leads Tedisco (R) by 178 votes district wide. But when do votes ever stop a Republican from trying to win any way? Obviously their definition of democracy is the courts decide who the winner is and not the voters, and if the courts don't agree they will keep stomping their feet and behaving like school yard bullies trying to get their way.

The last group of unchallenged Columbia County absentee ballots were counted Thursday. According to unofficial numbers provided by the BOE, Murphy accumulated 93 new votes and Tedisco gained another 49. This brings the total unchallenged absentee vote count to: Murphy 476, Tedisco 270.

Will this election be another round of whining and frivilous waste of money and time of the courts similar to the Republican Ex-Seantor from Minnesota, Norm Coleman who also lost and keeps losing in every court appeal?

President Obama Please Do The Right Thing

I support President Obama, and I am hopeful for our country's future in many ways. I am glad that the Bush torture memos were released yesterday. However, in one area, I must 100% disagree - we must hold accountable those who committed war crimes and tortured prisoners. We cannot let this horrible crime go unpunished for the sake our country now and our future.

If we do nothing, we are as guilty as the Rethugs who committed these crimes.

Keith Olbermann says is best in his special comment last night.

Morning Joe this morning did his usual ranting of nonsense on this issue - he is so wrong in so many ways, mostly importantly on the fact that there is NEVER a good excuse to torture. We did NOT get any useful information from torturing. We did NOT know who these people were and many were most likely innocents. Joe tried to make the argument that because we were "weak" and did not torture before 9/11 that contributed to why it happened. This is the craziest argument I have ever heard! If we allow America to sink to the level of being a war criminal, we behave in the same way as countries run by dictators, then we are abandoning our own laws and all treaties that we have agreed too. If we do not hold accountable the people who committed these war crimes we are saying to future generations that we are too weak to acknowledge when we are wrong and that future power hungry leaders can do what ever they want and get away with it as long as they scare the American people enough so they turn away and accept that our leaders are criminals and twist our ethics and intregrity out of shape and ignore our criminal behavior.

Who Was Paling Around (teabagging) Inside The Conserative Republican Big Tent?

It was interesting to see who attended the teabagging parties the other day and also who was not represented.

Who wasn't in the big Republican tent: No immigrants. No gay or lesbians. No muslims (and most likely none or very few non-Christians). Very few people of color.

But from the variety of signs that were carried there was definitely a wide variety of folks represented sharing the teabagging experience in the GOP big tent:

Some accusing Obama of being a facist
Others accusing Obama of being a communist
(Note: it is impossible to be both at the same time so who is right?)
A whole lot of folks who just can't handle a democrat and\or an African American President
Many more who are expert in hate and fear mongering, and a variety of misguided disgruntled folks who like to wave signs
Lots of protestors against socialism and wealth redistribution - but they had no problem holding the gatherings on socialist sponsored state property, and most protestors used socialist paved roads and other socialist public transporation to get to the rally, and every single one of them are\or will be accepting social security checks and medicare benefits, and I'm sure each and every one of them would call on a socialist fireman or police officer if needed.
Protestors against wasteful spending (yet they never once complained about Bush's over spending and wasted millions of teabags at the rallies)
Protestors agaist paying taxes (who failed to realize they had all just gotten a tax cut)
Far Right Social conservatists and Christian fundamentalist who want the government to stay out of their lives - however they want to control everyone else's lives and tell them what they can and cannot do with their bodies and in the bedroom
A sprinkling of religious zealots, anti-government militia groups, racist organizations, and extremists of all shapes and sizes.
And other folks promoting secession (at the same time calling for a revolution - yet they call the rest of us Un-American?)
Also attending, a few folks who seemed to be afraid of "telepromoters" for some reason, and a a few others revealed that they were racists when they were heard yelling "porch monkey"

And I have to ask WHY, on Tuesday morning when a Homeland Security report covering potential threats from "right wing extremist" groups, including militias, white supremacists and neo-Nazis was made public, did Faux News and the conservative right wing teabaggers immediately jump to the defense and think the report was about them? Are they admitting to being violent home grown terrorists?

And can anyone explain to me how these teabagging protestors keep letting themselves be manipulated by the big companies and wealthy corporate Republicans who lie to them and promise them anything - but in the end rip them off and give them nothing in return? Some how these teabaggers (average joes) seem to always end up protesting and voting against their own best interest time and time again because of GOP manipulation.

Peering inside the Conservative Republican Teabagging big tent takes a strong stomach and a bit of nerve, and it is definitely not a place I would want to venture into.

I also have to wonder WHY Faux News wants to stop our freedom of speech by telling everyone we have to stop making jokes about teabagging. I thought Faux News was all about individual freedoms. **shrugs** Hey, if they are going to name their conservative protest movement after a sexually explicit act, they have to expect that most of us are going to giggle about it.

Washington DC Teabagging A Huge Success

The rainy day could not dampen the spirits of the few hundred (or less) teabagging conservatives who showed up ready for tea-tantrums and protesting various injustices such as the tax cuts they were getting, the high taxes the richest Americans have to pay, others were there to support the drug companies because they care for people so we don't need medicare or health care reform, and of course lots of folks were there to protest socialism, with a few others protesting card check and amnesty for illegals.

Big government tried to hinder the protestors with silly rules about permits and obstucting sidewalks. The million tea bags that were suppose to be dumped on a tarp (so they would be easy to clean up) could not be unloaded because no one had gotten the proper permits prior to the event. Two stages were planned, but only one was allowed because the second would have been on the sidewalk.

Teabagging events across the country were also a huge success with dozens of folks in attendance.

Bless their little hearts.

Not that I have anything against tea, teabagging, or protests, but I prefer coffee and common sense.

The next time the Republican Party of No tries to get a fake grassroots protest off the ground, they will need to do more then No planning, No forethought, No central theme or message, and No concept that dumping a million bags of tea, yelling at them, then cleaning them up might be an utterly stupid waste of time and energy and innocent tea bags.

They all need to take some history classes as well - so they can understand just how pathetic this display of teabag revolution really is or put another way by Robert D. Stolorow: "the Republican right are rather pathetic examples of what I mean by resurrective ideology In the wake of the the trauma of economic collapse, these Republicans are reviving imagery derived from our glorious revolutionary history. By basking in the rhetoric of the Boston tea party, they cover up the disastrous economic consequences of the policies of the Bush administration and blame their woes on the new "red coats"--President Obama and his administration--who are in fact trying valiantly to fix what Bush and his collaborators have destroyed."

New Poll: Most People Do Not Trust Sarah Palin

Least Trustworthy American Politician is (**drumroll please**) Sarah Palin, according to a poll released yesterday by politico.com. To the question who do Americans trust to "find the right solutions," Palin is rated only slightly better than U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

I wonder why?
Could it be because Sarah Palin is breaking Alaskan law by trying over and over again to fill the vacant Democratic Senate seat with someone of her choosing (instead of selecting some one from the list provided by the Senate Dems)?
Could it be because she thinks like a naughty toddler?
Could it be because she selected Wayne Anthony Ross (W.A.R.) as her pick for attorney general, the most controversial, divisive, polarizing man possible to have been selected.
Could it be because Sarah Palin is never around to actually do her job as governor?
Or maybe it is because her lies, tantrums, narcissism, and Palin-gates have finally reached the boiling point.

There are signs of hope in Alaska that Alaskans and hopefully all of America may be free of Sarah Palin one day soon.
